Registration Information
Children between the ages of 6 and 18 may register.
Waverunner Team Requirements: The Waverunner Team will develop swimmers' understanding of all four strokes and work on endurance racing skills and techniques. In order to begin on the team, a swimmer must be able to swim freestyle with face in the water for the length of the pool, without touching the bottom, sides, or lane ropes. For swimmers under the age of 6 who wish to join the Waverunner team, they must be able to swim 2 strokes legally.
We will have assessment days for new 10 and under swimmers to get acclimated to being back in the pool, but this 'test' for the big team must be completed to the coach's satisfaction within the assessment days. If a swimmer does not meet these requirements, it is in the swimmers best interest to participate on the Guppy Team for the season. If a refund is preferred in lieu of joining the Guppy Team, the refund will be in full, less the SAIL required insurance fee.
Swimmers ages 11 and older will be evaluated by the coaching staff the first 3 days of practice. If a swimmer is unable to safely and adequately swim at the level of his or her age group, the swimmer will be removed from the team for the season and a refund will be given, less the required for SAIL insurance fee.
Big team starts the swim season in early May with afternoon practices. Depending on the weather and pool temperature, the coaches will determine each day whether these practices will be in water or on dry land. Once school is out they will start 2 a day practice, one in am, and one in pm. There are 5 meets in the season, along with a weekend for Divisionals, followed by a weekend (they must qualify) at Championships and Classics. A banquet is held on the week following Championships and Classics. **Any new swimmer under 10 years old will need to attend assessment day announced at the beginning of season. New swimmers who are 8 and under will have a 2 week trial period to make sure they're on the right team.**
Guppy Team Requirements: The Guppy Team develops the swimmers to advance to the Waverunner Team. Guppies will be taught basic strokes, but this is not intended to replace swimming lessons. A guppy should be fully potty trained and able to jump into the water voluntarily, put their face in the water, and make forward progress for at least 20 feet (half the distance of the short width of the pool). No floaties or swimmies allowed. We will allow a couple of days for guppies to get acclimated back in the pool, but this guppy 'test' must be completed within the first 3 days. If the guppy does not meet the requirement or you choose not to move forward on the Guppy Team, a refund will be issued in the first 3 days, in lieu of the required SAIL insurance fee.
Guppy Team swim season runs throughout the month of June. The morning Guppy Session Practices are Monday-Thursday from 10:30-11:15am and held at Forrester Woods Pool. The Evening Guppy Session Practices are Sunday-Wednesday from 6:30-7:15pm at Forrester Woods Estates Pool. A parent or guardian must stay with their guppy during practice and meets, no exceptions. Guppy team is not required to buy a team suit.
