Team Greenville Assessment at Forrester Woods

Good morning Guppies and Waverunner families,

The following email is being sent on behalf of Jay Crout, who is one of our swim team dads and who also helped on our coach interview and hiring team for the 2025 season. Jay is a previous collegiate swimmer from Clemson University and was also a swim coach when he was in high school and college.  We are lucky to have so much swim talent among our parents.  Please take a look at the information below if your swimmer would like to continue learning and developing their swim skills.  This is just one of the several swim programs in the upstate that are available to you, but we are happy that Team Greenville is coming to FW for this special assessment just for us.

Good morning Forrester Woods Swim Team!
It has been a very exciting season for our whole team this year, and it was great seeing how much improvement our swimmers had this summer. There are so many reasons for excitement and enthusiasm for where this swim team is headed, and our family could not be more thankful to be here! We have heard from a large number of parents this summer who are interested in having their children continue to swim throughout the school year. Because of that, we have coordinated with Team Greenville's Coach Erin McConkey for a special assessment time for Team Greenville to come out to our pool in Forrester Woods and perform assessments for any of our kids who are thinking about swimming throughout the fall, winter, and spring.

  • What: TG Assessments for Forrester Woods Swimmers (ages 5-18)
  • When: Monday, July 28th from 6:30-7:30pm
  • Where: Forrester Woods Pool

Note: Outside team's swimmers coming for an assessment will need to sign up with TG, but Forrester Woods swimmers don't need to. You will simply need to fill out a form when you arrive and wait for your swimmer's turn to be assessed. Assessments are no longer than 15 minutes, and our swimmers can come anytime between 6:30-7:30pm.

More Information: On Monday evening, July 28th, Team Greenville will conduct swimmer assessments from 6:30-7:30pm for anyone interested in learning more about their swim program and which group they would be eligible to sign up for. This is for any of our kids (ages 5-18), including guppies and those who would like to be on the swim team next year (provided they can swim a lap of freestyle with side breathing, and a lap of backstroke unassisted). There are a number of great options for swimming in the Upstate, and Team Greenville is one of them. They offer both year-round training as well as an introductory discovery program. Both of these options are available at their main pool (Greenville County Aquatic Complex) and their satellite pool (Holly Tree Country Club, just minutes away from our neighborhood). As a brief aside, this is a really great way to lay a decade-long foundation for the development of the Forrester Woods Swim Team. Kids who do just two or three years of regular swimming (even for just two days a week) often end up developing skills and abilities that carry over through the age of 18, even if they never swim year-round when they are older. This is true for all kids, whether they are Classics qualifiers or brand new swimmers trying to get all four legal strokes. Even if most of the children on our team end up playing other sports long-term, 2-3 years of swimming now will give them a solid foundation they can lean on every summer, even after they have stopped swimming during the school year. There are two main tracks that Team Greenville offers, and you can learn all about that from their website (Team Greenville Home) or from one of their coaches during our assessment period on July 28th. But briefly, they offer a more competitive option for swimmers to train 2-4 days a week and have access to many swim meets throughout the season. They also offer an introductory track (Discovery) which meets just twice a week, for only 30-minutes a time, and does have access to one meet near the end of the school year. Please let me know if you have any questions about this evaluation opportunity.
